Cure Parkinson’s welcomes new chair of trustees

We are pleased to announce that Mike Ashton will step into the role of chair of our board of trustees.

Mike joined the board towards the end of 2023, bringing with him extensive experience in business growth strategy, brand and marketing management and governance in both the private and charity sectors.

“I’ve been impressed and inspired by everything I’ve learned about Cure Parkinson’s, by the people I’ve met and by their single minded, urgent focus on finding a cure. I’m delighted to contribute my energy and experience to the work of such a committed and talented team.” Mike Ashton

Mike will take over as chair from long-standing Cure Parkinson’s trustee and supporter, Peter Berners-Price, who has been involved with the charity since it was founded in 2005. We say a huge thank you to Peter for his many years of dedicated service and commitment.

“When Sir Richard and Lady Nichols asked if I would help them organise an event to raise funds for research into Parkinson’s, little did I know how involved was to become in this cause over the next 20 years. As managing director, as trustee and more recently, as chairman of the board, it has been a privilege to have met so many people with a similar interest in finding a cure – those indomitable people living with Parkinson’s and their dedicated care-partners, those eminent scientists actively involved in the research process, those legions of kind people who give so generously to our cause, both with their time and their money, and our delightful, committed staff led so brilliantly by CEO, Helen Matthews. I wish our board of trustees, now with Mike Ashton in the chair, all the very best in continuing to guide this wonderful charity towards a cure.” Peter Berners-Price

We also say a huge thank you to David Murray and Phill Robinson, who are also stepping down from the board. David has been a dedicated advocate for the charity since his own Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2007, and has considered his time as trustee a ‘great privilege’. Meanwhile, Phill’s commitment to his highly successful software networking platform Boardwave (of which Cure Parkinson’s is a charity partner), continues to grow, meanwhile he is an active member of and contributor to our Development Board. A huge thank you to David and Phill for their commitment, and all they have brought to the charity.
