Detroit Lions player to honor Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson’s through ‘My Cause My Cleats’

DETROITDetroit Lions punter Jack Fox is set to honor the Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson’s as part of the “My Cause My Cleats” initiative.

The initiative has been part of the National Football League since 2016, where players reveal their passions beyond the game and wear their hearts on their feet.

Fox, along with thousands of players, chooses a cause that is important to them and represents their chosen organization on custom-designed cleats.

Players have the opportunity to raise money for their cause by auctioning their cleats. 100% of the money raised will be donated to the player’s charity of choice.

The reason behind Fox’s decision to don the former Detroit Tigers legend’s foundation was the love for his grandfather, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, giving him a personal understanding of the profound impact of the disease.

Fox will wear custom-designed cleats featuring the Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson’s.

The cleats feature the foundation logo in the classic Tigers colors and pay homage to Gibson’s baseball career.

The right cleat features his famous fist bump pose from his time playing with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the left cleat features his famous homerun celebration pose from the 1984 World Series when he played for the Tigers.

The Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson’s was formed by the former professional baseball player and manager after his diagnosis with Parkinson’s disease in 2015.

Kirk Gibson’s 1984 home run off San Diego’s Goose Gossage in Game 5 sealed the Tigers fourth World Series championship.

Gibson attended Michigan State University, where he played both football and baseball.

He spent most of his career with the Tigers and played for the Dodgers, Kansas City Royals, and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Gibson currently works as a color commentator for the Tigers, special assistant to the Tigers, and spends his time supporting his mission and vision of spreading awareness for Parkinson’s and providing inspiration and hope to others who are living with Parkinson’s.

Look for Fox to lace up the specialty cleats on Thursday Night Football, where the Lions play host to the Green Bay Packers inside Ford Field.
