On June 12, members of 100 Women Who Care Southern Delaware (100WWCSD) gathered at Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach to present a gift of $13,970 to the Parkinson’s Education & Support Group of Sussex County (PESGSC). The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation contributed an additional $5,000 in matching funds, bringing the total donation to $18,970 — the largest award to date from the 100WWCSD chapter.
“This group of Parkinson’s fighters and their families show up every day — whether it’s through singing, boxing, rock wall climbing, or exercise — to keep moving and stay connected,” said Denise Demback, a board director with PESGSC. “They are so deserving, and we are incredibly grateful for the support from 100 Women Who Care Southern Delaware and the Schulze Family Foundation to help us continue our mission.”
The PESGSC Chorus program, which meets weekly at Epworth Church, is one of several therapeutic initiatives offered by the nonprofit. Singing, representatives said, offers numerous benefits to individuals with Parkinson’s disease, including improved breath control, vocal strength and clearer speech. Beyond its physical benefits, the chorus also aims to foster emotional wellbeing and community connection.
The funds from this award will directly support the ongoing development of PESGSC’s educational, exercise and therapeutic programs, which currently serve more than 250 individuals with Parkinson’s and their care partners in Sussex County.
The Parkinson’s Chorus will present their Summer Performance at Epworth United Methodist Church on Wednesday, July 24, and the community is being encouraged to attend and show their support.
The philanthropic organization 100 Women Who Care Southern Delaware brings together women with a passion for giving back to their community. With more than 170 active members — and growing — the group meets quarterly to learn about and support the work of local nonprofits through collective giving.
