Ben Tozer shares prediction about Phil Parkinson’s January transfer window plans at Wrexham

Wrexham will head into 2025 in an automatic promotion spot in League One after beating Wigan Athletic on Boxing Day.

After disappointing draws against Cambridge United and Bristol Rovers, Wrexham needed a strong festive period.

Paul Mullin stunned Wrexham fans with an incredible goal in the 2-1 win over Blackpool before Wigan Athletic arrived at the STōK Cae Ras.

Wrexham left it late but Steven Fletcher popped up with the key goal, converting James McClean’s cross to secure another 2-1 home win.

Wycombe Wanderers slipped up against Charlton Athletic and Wrexham took full advantage, taking second place in the League One table with Sunday’s win.

Wrexham can now celebrate another positive year under Phil Parkinson having secured a second straight promotion in April; perhaps a third will come in 2025.

Ben Tozer on Wrexham transfer plans

Wrexham take on Barnsley on New Year’s Day but many fans will be thinking about the January transfer window.

January provides Wrexham with a real chance to bolster Parkinson’s squad and signings may well arrive.

Reports suggest that Wrexham want to sign a striker in January as Parkinson chases more firepower.

Former Wrexham defender Ben Tozer has now commented on the January window and how he expects Parkinson to approach the market.

Tozer told Wrexham Matchday Live that he doesn’t think the focus should be on necessarily setting a new Wrexham transfer record, but simply finding the right players.

The former skipper believes that Parkinson won’t rush the market and suggested there is ‘no chance’ of Parkinson making a signing on January 1.

Tozer joined Forest Green Rovers over the summer but is still keeping a close eye on Wrexham, believing that waiting until the end of the window could be Parkinson’s plan.

“It shouldn’t be about breaking the million pound barrier, it should be about signing the right player,” said Tozer.

“That’s what the gaffer will absolutely do. He won’t rush, there won’t be a signing on the 1st of January; I don’t know that for a fact, but I’d put a lot of money on it – there’s no chance!

“He will probably wait until the last two or three days but that’s because teams are going to be thinking ‘Wrexham need this, Wrexham need that, we’re going to charge you this, we’re going to charge you that’.

“You’ve almost got to plant that seed into the player’s head, let the club know, let the player get a little bit upset – not too much because obviously you want to sign the right characters – and then by the end of the window, they ultimately – and I don’t like to say it – force their way out and force their way here,” he added.

Who has been linked with Wrexham?

Wrexham will be eyeing a number of signings but attackers appear to be the focus.

The main rumour has seen Patrick Bamford linked with Wrexham amid a lack of playing at Leeds United.

Bamford’s Leeds United teammate Joe Gelhardt is also on Wrexham’s radar whilst Wrexham fancy Bristol City’s Harry Cornick.

Cornick is close with Elliot Lee and a reunion after their Luton Town days could be in the pipeline.

Jack Marriott and Luke Bolton arrived late in the window over the summer and Wrexham may well have some surprises to come with another promotion wanted.
