Rebecca and Lily Whitehurst: winners of Cure Parkinson’s Fundraiser of the Year Award 2024!
July 14, 2025
Inspirational fundraiser’s Rebecca and Lily walked the Pembrokeshire coast path in 2024, raising vital funds and awareness for the charity.
The award celebrates fundraisers who have gone above and beyond to support the charity’s vital Parkinson’s research, and the mother-daughter duo truly went the extra mile with their fundraising last year.
Over the years the family have fundraised for Parkinson’s charities as Rebecca’s dad (Lily’s grandad) lived with Parkinson’s for 20 years, and her husband (Lily’s dad) was diagnosed with the condition in 2010.
In 2024, the Whitehursts challenged themselves to walk the Pembrokeshire coast path, covering 186 miles in 16 days, and raised a phenomenal £8,000 with their challenge. To keep them going during the 16 day adventure, the Whitehursts relied on the incredible support from family and friends, and the stunning Pembrokeshire coastline to lift their spirits. Rebecca said:
We had different people join us on our walks almost every day, as well as a network of supporters that drove us to and from start and end locations and even cooked the occasional meal for us. Without a doubt we could not have done it without them. And when the sun shone and the Pembrokeshire coast was there in all its glory, it all seemed much more possible.”
To document their adventure, they also set up an Instagram account dedicated to their challenge (@coastpath4parkinsons), helping to raise the profile of their challenge and update their supporters.
We’re extremely grateful to Rebecca and Lily for their incredible support of the charity, and wish them a huge congratulations for being our Fundraisers of the Year!

We’d also like to give a special mention to runner up John Horohoe (left), who organised a charity Ultra White Collar Boxing event. John, who was new to the sport prior to the challenge, set himself a goal to raise £1,500 but managed to raise a staggering £17,000 (close to £20,000 with gift aid) in support of our research! John said:
I chose Cure Parkinson’s as my grandad suffered for years with the condition. Every day he fought his battle and he was a huge inspiration to me, so I thought I’d challenge myself and raise awareness for this horrible condition.”
