A medical luminary with expertise in Parkinson’s disease visited the White House eight times in eight months from last summer to this spring, including at least once to meet with the president’s doctor Joe Biden. This was revealed by the “New York Times” newspaper, according to what emerges from the official registers of visitors to the White House. The expert, Kevin Cannard, is a neurologist specializing in movement disorders and recently published an article on Parkinson’s. The records, published by the White House in response to a request from the “New York Times”, document visits made from July 2023 to March of this year. The most recent visits, if any, will not be published for the time being, as established by the White House. It is unclear whether Cannard was at the White House to consult specifically on the president’s health or whether he was there as part of unrelated meetings with the White House medical staff.

Obama administration records, at the time Biden was vice president, show that Cannard made ten visits there in 2012, plus one visit to family; four visits in 2013 and one in 2014. Records from 2015 and 2016 were not immediately located online. Obama’s successor Donald Trump, instead revoked the policy of voluntary disclosure of White House visits, so records from his four years in office are unavailable. The White House has not commented specifically on the purpose of Cannard’s recent visits. “A wide variety of specialists visit the White House complex to care for the thousands of military personnel who work there,” he said in a statement. Andrew Bates, White House spokesperson, pointing out that President Biden “has been seen by a neurologist once a year” as part of his annual general physical and “that exam found no signs of Parkinson’s and he is not being treated for This”. The revelations come after the White House declared in recent days that President Biden has no symptoms of the disease and that there is no reason to update the most recent tests, conducted in February.
