Charity issues appeal for volunteers in café sessions
A charity is seeking volunteers to run monthly community sessions in Surrey.
Parkinson’s UK hosts events on the second Tuesday of every month in Camberley at the High Cross Church Cafe.
Zoe Sole, the charity’s local volunteer officer said the Camberley service provides a “crucial support network” for those living with Parkinson’s and their families and friends.
She said: “Our ability to provide this essential service hinges on the generosity and dedication of volunteers, without whom we risk having to close these vital groups.”
Parkinson’s UK says around 153,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with the condition. Of that number, 2,603 are in Surrey.
There are more than 300 Parkinson’s UK local groups throughout the UK.
All are run by volunteers who are trained and supported by Parkinson’s UK staff.
Ms Sole said: “It’s an opportunity to expand your horizons, create lasting memories, and build meaningful relationships within your community.”
The sessions run from 10:30BST to 12:00.
Parkinson’s is a degenerative neurological condition with no cure.
The main three symptoms of the condition are tremors, slowness of movement and rigidity.
