Carmen distributed brochures on OPAN Self Advocacy Kit. They are the Older Person’s Advocacy Network who provide a free service for aged care matters and they have resources which can be mailed out.

Also discussed was The Wonder Sheet: a sheet with a satin insert which helps people turn in bed. This business is located on the Gold Coast and was started by Dominique for her father who had Parkinsons.

At the next (brunch) meeting to be held on 24th June at the Wondai Diggers’ Club, Debbie Tellum, a Kingaroy local who has signed up for Larapinta Trek will be coming along as guest speaker. Further details at a later date.

In September 2024 Ron will be running the 10 kilometre Bridge to Brisbane run in support of, and to raise money for, Parkinson’s Disease.

Donations will be greatly appreciated and you can do this by contacting: b2bparkinsonsqueensland.gofundraise.com.au/page/RonMitchell.

Doug talked about the art therapy being conducted with instructor Morag Muckert at the Murgon Cancer Group of which he is the coordinator.

Doug suggested that this type of creative artwork could be therapeutic for the Parkinson’s Support Group. The completed works can then be displayed for sale at the art gallery located in the 55 Million Years Ago complex.

After some discussion it was unanimously agreed that this idea is a worthwhile one for the group. One photo here depicts Doug displaying one of his “masterpieces”!

The meeting closed at 11.45am. If you would like any information on the Parkinson’s Support Group please contact Carmen (Coordinator) on 5486 1268.
