On Saturday, June 22, 2024, for the second year, Living Better with Parkinson’s is hosting the “South Georgian Bay Parkinson’s Festival” at Bayview Park in Thornbury from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The purpose of the day is to bring together like-minded people from the South Georgian Bay region and beyond who are interested in sharing stories, learning, and meeting new people connected to the Parkinson’s community. This festival is one of a kind supporting people living with Parkinson’s Disease in South Georgian Bay. Like last year, it is anticipated that people will attend from around the region.

“On behalf of Living Better with Parkinson’s and the South Georgian Bay community, we are delighted to once again host this important event” said C. Ian Ross, chair of the board of directors. “Living Better With Parkinson’s prides itself on cultivating local partnerships to better support people living with Parkinson’s Disease in this region. The festival does just that along with attracting experts from other parts of Ontario. We are thrilled with the response and support to date and hope that this event will continue for many years to come”.

Over the next decade, 1.5 to two per cent of the population over 60 years old will live with Parkinson’s Disease in North America. The South Georgian Bay population is growing rapidly, and the demographics are aging as it attracts more residents to the area. In this decade, the number of people with Parkinson’s in the region is expected to double.

Living Better with Parkinson’s is a grassroots organization committed to increasing the quality of life of people living with Parkinson’s Disease and their caregivers in South Georgian Bay.  Promoting daily physical activity, advocacy and education are the primary pillars ensuring that mission is achieved.
