Votes are in for $241 million Parkinson Recreation Centre in Kelowna

Voting on the $241 million loan for recreation centres in Kelowna has ended.The city has been going through the alternative approval process to secure a $241 million loan to redevelop the Parkinson recreation centre, build the Glenmore and Mission Activity Centres, and redevelop the Rutland sports fields.Residents were able to vote on whether the city could get this loan, the voting closed yesterday, Oct. 13.READ MORE: Opponents of Kelowna’s Parkinson Recreation Centre battling ‘loophole’Under the alternative approval process the city gets residents’ approval for the loan if less than 10 per cent of residents vote.Only 3.4 per cent, or 4,153, people voted against the project, there needed to be 12,160 ‘no’ votes to deny the loan.City council will be deciding whether to go through with the loan at the regular meeting on Monday, Oct. 16.To contact a reporter for this story, email Jesse Tomas or call 250-488-3065 or email the editor.
